Nonprofit Ventura County Home Buying Assistance

Alex Vega speaks with Sandra Siepak about the nonprofit, Ventura County Community Development Corporation (VCCDC), which was established in 2001. Their goal is to help first-time, low to moderate income-earners buy a home.

Vega discusses the opportunity for 3% down payments and down payment assistance, as well as partially forgivable loans for down payments.

He also discusses their Creating A Stable Home (CASH) program, which is a coaching curriculum to help guide people towards gaining a better chance of buying their first home.

Vega talks about the Community Reninvestment Act (CRA) program, which is regulation that requires banks to benefit qualified home owners by ensuring more of their money goes to their loan, as opposed to mortgage insurance.

For many people, the Down Payment Assistance (DPA) program is a key component for low to moderate income buyers. It makes the difference between whether they get the loan or not.

Ending Homelessness: The Ventura County Continuum of Care Alliance

$

Tara Carruth speaks with Bob Taylor about the Ventura County Continuum of Care Alliance, which has a purpose to end homelessness in Ventura County.

Their mission statement is to be “a collaborative group dedicated to promoting a safe, desirable and thriving community by ending homelessness in Ventura County.”

Additional information from their website states the following:

They invest in evidence-based, results-driven and client-focused systems of support that integrate practices, procedures, and services within and across public and private agencies, programs, and policies.

People experiencing homelessness require very affordable and permanent housing solutions as quickly as possible and then services as needed.

They start with and build upon the skills, strengths, and positive characteristics of each person.

Homelessness is a complex, high-risk and individualized condition, not a character trait. Recognize that most people experiencing homelessness have experienced trauma, and build relationships, responses, and services on that knowledge.

They seek to reduce the effects of risky behavior in the short-term and eliminate its effects in the long-term.
